Orly Cotton Candy

2 coats, sunlight

Orly Cotton Candy is an apricot-based pastel pink creme from the Spring 2010 collection. Because of the peachy undertones, this colour is amazing for warmer skin tones like mine. Application, however, wasn’t good. I still see some bald spots with two coats so three coats would be more ideal.

When swatched beside other pastel cremes like China Glaze Something Sweet and Orly Cupcake, you can see the peachy tones in Cotton Candy more clearly.

China Glaze Raspberry Festival

2 coats, sunlight

I was looking through some old photographs and chanced upon this really old swatch of China Glaze Raspberry Festival. This is a raspberry red with silver glass fleck shimmer. I’m salivating looking at all this juiciness.

With China Glaze Ruby Pumps, night

For the life of me, I cannot remember why this photograph is so bad. But here’s a comparison with Ruby Pumps, which is a much deeper red and contains bright red glitter. You cannot tell from this crappy ass photo but Ruby Pumps is 10 times more gorgeous. Seriously, it’s like Raspberry Festival’s sophisticated sister.

With Essie Matte About You

Raspberries mattified! I asked Tom if this looked like raspberries to him because they are his favourite fruit. He said the nails looked more like dragon fruit…!

Nubar 2010

1 coat of Nubar 2010 with NARS Midnight Express, sunlight

Nubar 2010 is a clear polish filled with multicoloured duochrome flakies. On a blue base, I see mainly green, orange and yellow, with the colours changing depending on the light. The different flake sizes also make it interesting. Some are big, others are smaller.

1 coat with OPI Nicole The Grape Debate, sunlight

On a dark purple base, I see a lot more orange than the other two colours. Overall, it’s an incredible polish for layering and an interesting twist to just plain glitter. I’m beginning to like Nubar a lot, seeing as how the two polishes I have from this line are incredible.

Nubar can be purchased off eBay to Singapore at a reasonable price.

Claire’s Flirty/Shy

Weifen’s nails, 2 coats, iPhone photo

This is one of Claire’s mood changing nail polishes and it changes colour based on temperature. At warm temperatures (which is basically the colour you see when you go outdoors in Singapore), the colour of the polish is “Shy” – a bright medium blue.

Anna’s nails, 2 coats, indoor

Flirty, on the other hand, turns up when the temperature is cooler, deepening into a lapis lazuli blue. Anna’s nails are a different colour because she was sipping hot coffee in the freezing cold of New York so most of her nails turned “shy.” If your nails are long enough, the tips and the nail bed should turn different colours.

This was a fun polish, although I’m sure that if I could try it on someone with longer nails to see the gradient effect, it would be more incredible. Any volunteers? 🙂
